There are three critical qualification requirements you have to meet when you file a claim. First, enough money must have earned in the base period to set up a claim. Second, your unemployment must be no fault of your own. Third, you must be able to work, be available for work, and be actively hunting for work each week you claim benefits.

After you file a claim, the department will send you a written decision (called a determination) telling you whether benefits may be paid or not. Usually, this determination is issued about 14 to 21 days after the day you file. Your first check will usually be mailed on the same day as the written decision, if benefits are allowed on your claim. Each week you must claim benefits prior to receipt of your determination in order to receive payment for those weeks.
Please note, you should have a valid personal email address to file an unemployment claim online. Confidential and private information about your claim will be sent to this email address. Remember the date you first file for benefits is when your claim is effective.
